AMONG THE DEAD

In all the time I've spent exploring and documenting old cemeteries, not once have I had the desire to be in one at night. But it was late in the afternoon when I felt enough shots had been taken of the old cemetery and it was quite a drive back to the nearest town. I put my camera and other equipment on the passenger's seat and got into the most faithful vehicle I've ever owned. There was a gusty evening wind moving in that almost seemed to forewarn of something bad, then it happened! With the turn of the ignition key, there was only a repeated clicking, indicating a battery too low on power to start the truck's engine. My battery was as dead as those who provided a purpose for this place! I was miles and miles from anybody - alive! I tried my cell phone only to learn that its battery was low also. I was indeed stranded - alone in a very beautiful old cemetery by day and a very spooky one at night!

As darkness was rapidly approaching, I opted to take one more shot of the old graveyard after which, I cleaned the battery cables, netting no favorable results.

At some point, after about an hour or so, a car entered the side entrance of the old cemetery where I was parked. I leaped out of the truck, jumper cables in hand! A young man got out of the driver's side of the car and a young girl got out of the passenger's side, she was carrying something in her hand.

  "Dead battery?' she asked.

"Yep."

With that she got into the passenger side of my pickup truck, still carrying the box. From it, she pulled a cord that she plugged it into my 12V power outlet (cigar lighter). " Give it maybe three or four minutes, then try it." she said. "Oh, you can put those away - we won't be using them", referring to the jumper cables.

Black and Decker's Simple Start

In no more than five minutes, I started my truck's engine and nobody had to raise the hood! This was my first experience with Black and Decker's Simple Start Battery Booster! My next two purchases were determined, they were in order, a new battery for my truck and a new Black and Decker Simple Start Battery Booster. These days when you are stranded and all alone and a car approaches, it can make you very nervous. You don't know if it is friend or foe. I was lucky this time! Next time I will be prepared.

I read the customer reviews on the Black and Decker Simple Start and found it has a 4 out of 5 star rating. One very important point is that some cars must have the key turned to accessory for it to work. If you don't plan to read the instructions, remember this one point! The battery booster can also charge a dead cell phone, has two lights for emergency use and fits in your glove compartment. Many people are buying the battery booster to give as gifts. For under $50.00 it's a great gift for single women, disabled people and older folks who just don't want the hassle of using jumper cables. Besides, to use jumper cables you need another car around with a good battery, something that is not always easy to find. It's a great gift for anyone who owns a car!

NOTE: This is a true story that happened to me in Texas. During all the time described above, I was the only one in the cemetery - or so I thought. Please look closely at the above photo, between the two trees! There appear to be "people"-as many as six I counted! - Well, okay - actually, it turned out to be an illusion - but, you'll never get me to go back there at night to prove it! Thanks - Wilson Jay
