Through a violent history during
colonial times in North America, the colony of Georgia survived to become a state
in 1788. It was the fourth state and the last of the original thirteen colonies.
Georgia is bordered
on the east by the Atlantic coast and South Carolina. To its south is Florida.
Its western border is with Alabama and to its north are Tennessee and North Carolina The
gold dome that is atop the Georgia Capital Building is real gold, hammered
to the proper thickness and presented to the state government by the citizens
of Dahlonega, Georgia, which is the site of the US' first gold rush. Note:
This was not the first US gold mine however, that was the Reed Mine in North Carolina. Notorious
gunman John Henry (Doc) Holliday
was from Griffin, Georgia. His father, Henry B. Holliday became
the mayor of Valdosta. The

the world. Rock N Roll bands, the

and first performed in Athens. The
Allman Brothers Band lost
two of its members, Duane
Allman and Berry
Oakley in separate motorcycle accidents almost a year apart and only a
few blocks apart in Macon. Paul
Anderson (1932-1994) of Toccoa was considered the world's strongest man.
On June 12, 1957, he lifted a total of 6,270 pounds in a backlift, which is still
listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the greatest weight lifted by
