Lowndes County Courthouse in Valdosta, Georgia on the National Register of Historic Places.

The city of Valdosta was incorporated on December 7, 1860. The county government was then moved from nearby Troupville, a steamboat landing, to Valdosta. When a railroad was routed through Valdosta, the residents of nearby Troupville simply and quite literally, moved most of their town to Valdosta. There are a few of the old Troupville buildings still standing in Valdosta! Its courthouse was built in 1905 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Valdosta was a large producer of long-staple cotton until 1917, when the boll weevil destroyed the crops. The area then made the transition to raising tobacco and pine trees.

Many of Valdosta's first citizens are buried at Cat Creek Cemetery, located on the outskirts of Valdosta.

Wild Adventures Park in Valdosta, Georgia has no less than nine roller coasters and is one of the most fun for the buck places to be found!
