Camp Worth was established
in 1849, later the same year, it was renamed Fort Worth. Early pioneers
settled in close proximity of the fort as protection against attacks
by the Indians of the area. In 1853, the army abandoned the site upon
completion of a new line of forts farther west. The local pioneers
moved into Fort Worth and started building a city. Fort Worth would
experience growth as other cities of the West. Over the years so many
herds of cattle were shipped to market through Fort Worth that it
became informally known as "Cowtown". Today, it is the eighteenth
largest city in the US and certainly one of the most livable.
Today, Fort Worth is
a center for the aerospace and semi conductor businesses.
